Materials of the Future. Refractory Metal Tubes


A growth trend of high-technology and science intensive production share in the world economy keeps on strengthening. Today competitive ability of an individual enterprise and even of the whole trade directly depends on the use of qualitatively different production raw materials. They are so-called “materials of the future”. It is generally accepted to refer production of refractory metal tubes (RMT) to that group of materials (RMT: chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, tantalum, and niobium).

 

Aerospace technology, aviation, nuclear power engineering, defense industry, mechanical engineering, electronics and electrical engineering, medicine, glass manufacturing … None of these industries can do without refractory metal tubes. They are an engineering structural material leaving no alternative in manufacturing of parts and components for special machinery to be operated in corrosive environments and at temperatures above 1000 °С.

Dnepr-GL is the only company in Ukraine and CIS specialized in production and sales of refractory metal based alloy tubes. Together with leading scientific authorities in that field the Company established a high-technology science intensive production of refractory metal tubes on the basis of its own manufacturing capabilities. Normative-technical and technological documents for all product types were drawn up by Ya.Yu.Osada Scientific Research Tube Institute (SE VNITI) personnel.

Tubes are produced of certified billets only. The enterprise uses high-precision special-purpose equipment, vacuum heat-treatment facilities, employs state-of-the-art chemical treatment and end product finishing technologies. A tough quality control system has been implemented and maintained.

Dnepr-GL has a turnaround technological complex necessary for RMT production. Process flow includes ingot conversion into hot-rolled billets and their deformation to final dimensions by cold rolling and drawing. The Company produces marketable products, which are fully ready for service and do not require any additional treatment.

High-precision technologies enable Dnepr-GL to produce light-wall and ultra light-wall tubes, including capillary tubes, of any steel grades, including refractory metals (tungsten, molybdenum, tantalum, niobium and their alloys). Basic product mix comprises tubes dia. 0,15 mm to 35mm with wall thicknesses 0,05 mm to 10 mm.

Marketing research carried out by Dnepr-GL specialists showed that a present-day market of refractory products develops quite dynamically. Rapid development of robot technology and instrument engineering, electronics, automobile production, chemical and petrochemical industry, aerospace and military industries, implementation of technological innovations promote a demand for tubular products of this segment. Thus, for example, annual demand of Russian enterprises for molybdenum tubes alone is over 1000 kg.

During the last 2 to 3 years the market grows basically owing to enterprises of military-industrial establishment. A rapid increase can be observed in production and use of tungsten tubes, tubes of “metal of the future” titanium, and zirconium tubes for nuclear power engineering.
